DESCRIPTION

Lakes District

Day 1 (-/-/D)
Your car will be ready on arrival in Temuco Airport. After visiting the Mapuche Indian market in the city, you drive to the scenic town of Pucón, the main adventure destination in the Lakes & Volcanoes District, approximately 75 minutes driving time from Temuco. Then you continue to Caburga and stay for the next three nights in Landhaus San Sebastián, located in a picturesque side valley of Pucón.

Day 2 (B/-/D)
Full day visiting the Huerquehue National Park where you will climb through lush beech and araucaria forests to several pristine mountain lakes, each of which is very different. Trails are shaded and bounded by old growth forests of araucaria, mañio, coigue, raulí and tepa.

Day 3 (B/-/D)
An option today is a tour of the area during which you will visit the beautiful lakes and rivers of the region. You will be able to walk through cool, native woods to numerous 150-200 ft waterfalls as well as have an opportunity for a relaxing soak in one of the area’s famous hot springs.

Day 4 (B/-/-)
After breakfast you drive south through the pastoral countryside, where local Mapuche people have small farms, visiting the scenic Lago Calafquén. After visiting Panguipulli, the city of the roses, you make your way south towards Puyehue. The recently renovated resort hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and has extensive gardens. It also offers leisure facilities which include an indoor pool, a sauna and a mud bath. Here you will stay for the next two nights.

Day 5 (B/-/-)
Today you will have enough time to visit the Puyehue National Park located in this extraordinarily beautiful zone in the Lakes Region. The Park offers a variety of activities that allow you to discover its natural wonders. In Anticura, there are many paths which take you through the forests to observe waterfalls and the wildlife. Finally the Antillanca Sector is where the ski center – of the same name – is located. There are many geological and floral attractions and some marshland.

Day 6 (B/GT/D)
Check out during the morning and continue south to Los Guindos Farm, located in Puerto Fonck on the north shore of Lake Llanquihue. On the way you stop at the famous “Café Hexe” where you will enjoy a typical “German tea”. The renovated guest house, where you will stay for the next two days, is managed by Gloria Weisser, descendant of German immigrants who arrived in Chile at the end of the 19th century.

Day 7 (B/-/D)
Following the eastern shore of the lake you drive to Villa Ensenada passing through the slopes of the Osorno Volcano, then turn off towards Petrohue and the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. A short easy walk leads you to the famous waterfalls where there are opportunities for photos of the icy cold clear waters which turn a fierce green as they cascade over the volcanic lip. Then you continue onwards to reach the shores of the Esmeralda Lake. Afterwards enjoy a short walk around Laguna Verde in an ancient forest before returning to Los Guindos

Day 8 (B/-/D)
Early in the morning depending on your timing, you visit Puerto Varas before you head to the airport. Drop off your car and catch your flight to Punta Arenas.

Patagonia
Car reception at the airport in Punta Arenas. Traveling north, the road takes you to Río Verde, which is a part of an old sheep station (estancia), dating from the late 1800s, where most of the original buildings are still there. You will stay for the next two days in Posada Río Verde.

Day 9 (B/-/D)
Full day for different activities in Río Verde. An option could be a trip to Isla Riesco, just a 5 minute drive to the ferry from the lodge, where you can drive through winding roads, native forest, along the shores of the Fitz-Roy Channel. In Río Verde, you will be able to experience the magnificence of condors flying over, an ibis colony nesting in a bluff by the sea cormorants, flamingos, ducks, swans, rhea, foxes, etc.

Day 10 (B/-/D)
Today the road takes you through Cruce Fabres to Puerto Natales, a cruise ship and ferry terminal in this region. On the way you stop and enjoy the beauty and charm of the southern Patagonian landscape. After visiting the city, you continue north and stay in a small cozy hotel, located in the confluence of three valleys, which served as inspiration for one of the works of the great Chilean poet, Gabriela Mistral, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, called “Desolation”. Here you will stay for the next three nights.

Day 11 (B/-/D)
Full day day exploring on your own in the impressive Torres del Paine National Park, declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978. You visit the Salto Grande, a turquoise waterfall, and admire the unique flora and fauna in this place. An alternative option includes a trip to Laguna Azul from where you will also enjoy great views of the Torres. On the way visit the Cascada Paine waterfall.

Day 12 (B/L/D)
Full day boat trip from Puerto Natales to Glacier Balmaceda and Serrano. After arrival at Estancia Perales for a lunch on the shores of the Ultima Esperanza Fjord, you return to Puerto Natales and your Posada Tres Pasos.

Day 13 (B/-/-)
Back to Punta Arenas. Don't miss visiting the Milodon Cave, where in 1896 the remains of a prehistoric giant ground sloth were found, it definitely should be part of your trip. One can almost imagine the sloth and a saber-toothed tiger which lived in that area as they fought for survival in their times. City tour on your own.

Day 14 (B/-/-)
Depending on your flight time to Santiago, you drive to the airport, drop off your car and catch the flight. Transfer to your hotel.

This is one of the most beautiful valleys in the country and it is dedicated primarily to the production of fruit trees and vineyards. The main destination will be Santa Cruz; capital of “Huaso” Chile, the Chilean cowboy territory. All around there is a multitude of vineyards which together make up the “Colchagua wine route”, characterized by a production of wine that holds international recognition.
