Weather: general description.
Santiago: Protected by its surrounding hills, and situated between the coastal regions and the Mountain ranges, boasts a Mediterranean climate with cool springs and autumns, wet winters and a hot and dry summer with temperatures reaching over 30ºC (87ºF).
Rainfall, usually restricted to the winter season in the Northern and Central regions increases when moving further south.
Coastal regions in general are more humid and cooler due to the influence of the oceanic currents.
Ample snowfall in the mountain ranges during the winter, provides for excellent snow sport possibilities.
