Pictures of Lican Ray, Chile
Apply named "Rock Flower" in the Mapuche Language, Lican Ray is a rustic and tranquil small town on the shores of the Calafquen Lake.
The town itself provides all the modern basic necessities, but does so in its own style and pace.
It prides itself on its dark volcanic sand beaches, Playa Grande which is more suitable for bathing and Playa Chica which, with its small jetty, provides boat services including fishing outings.
Lican Ray is situated on the North shore of the Calafquen Lake about 27 Kilometers from Villarrica, and about 35 from Pucon.
A number of volcanoes can be found in the area, the most famous one being Villarrica Volcano.
Lican Ray came into existence as a trading post for the nearby Mapuche reservations in the 1940's. Without useable roads in those days, supplies were ferried in by Steamboat.
Due to the presence of the lake a large number of water sports can be practiced: jet ski, water skiing, fishing, bathing, sailing, windsurfing.
Other activities include, tennis, zip lining "canopy tours", horse back riding, trekking and rafting or for the more adventurous: climb the famous Villarrica volcano.
