Chile's National Parks: A Tapestry of Wild Beauty

Stretching across a vast and geographically diverse expanse, Chile's national parks form a breathtaking network of protected areas that safeguard the nation's rich natural heritage. From the arid plains of the Atacama Desert in the north to the dramatic ice fields of Patagonia in the south, these parks encompass an extraordinary array of ecosystems.
Managed by the Corporación Nacional Forestal (CONAF) under the National System of Protected Wild Areas (SNASPE), with each park a testament to Chile's commitment to conservation. This extensive network protects not only iconic landscapes but also a remarkable biodiversity, including ancient forests, volcanic peaks, and unique wildlife found nowhere else on Earth.

The creation and expansion of Chile's national parks have been a dynamic process, marked by a growing recognition of the intrinsic value of its wilderness. A significant recent development has been the Route of Parks of Patagonia," a monumental conservation initiative that connects 17 national parks along a 1,700-mile scenic route.
This project, born from a landmark public-private partnership, has solidified Chile's position as a global leader in conservation.
The parks offer visitors unparalleled opportunities for recreation and exploration, from trekking through the granite spires of Torres del Paine to marveling at the ancient Alerce trees in Alerce Andino National Park.

Whether it's the otherworldly landscapes of the high Andean salt flats, the temperate rainforests of the Lake District, or the pristine subpolar wilderness of the country's southernmost tip, Chile's national parks offer a profound immersion into nature. They serve as vital refuges for endangered species such as the huemul (South Andean deer) and the Andean condor, while also acting as living laboratories for scientific research. For both the casual visitor and the seasoned adventurer, these protected areas provide an unforgettable glimpse into the wild soul of Chile.

As of June 2024, it is no longer possible to purchase tickets for the same day or obtain them directly at the entrances, and the entrances are exclusively dedicated to validating passes.
We have, wherever applicable, provided direct links to the park's official ticket site. For some of the parks tickets can not be bought, either because entry is free or other circumstances apply, in which case we provide links to pages with the relevant information.
